Luxembourg 2022
Luxembourg is a stunning mix of Modern & Old World Charm.
One thing we love doing while traveling is crossing off countries, and Europe is the perfect place for this! With so many small nations and unique cultures just a short train ride apart, there’s always a new place to explore. Brussels was our home base for this trip, and we decided to take a day trip to Luxembourg, one of Europe’s smallest yet most fascinating countries.
Luxembourg City, the capital, is perched on dramatic cliffs and hills, giving it a stunning and distinctive layout. We spent the day wandering up and down the steep streets of the Old Town, which was challenging on our aging knees but completely worth it. The city’s history is everywhere—the ramparts of the old fortress, built by the Spaniards in the 16th century and later expanded by the Austrians and French, offered incredible views of the surrounding valleys. We also visited the Notre-Dame Cathedral, a beautiful Gothic and Renaissance structure at the heart of the city.
In between sightseeing, we explored local cafés and restaurants, passed by numerous fine dining and Michelin-starred establishments, strolled by the Grand Ducal Palace, and got delightfully lost in the alleys where locals live their daily lives. The weather couldn’t have been better, and Luxembourg’s mix of history, charm, and scenic beauty made for an unforgettable day trip.
